ABOUT MANDY REDMOND

My journey as a professional dancer/choreographer has naturally led me to become more interested in working within the community setting. I feel there is a huge gap between the professional and community worlds of dance with not a whole lot between. I believe that with the right quality of choreography, body positivity and an inclusive approach, non-professional dancers can look amazing. This can lead to community dance work that pushes the anticipated boundaries, whilst celebrating the individuality of each dancer. I believe in art being accessible for all - for both participants and audiences.

I trained at The Royal Ballet School and The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and choreographed, taught and danced extensively for fifteen years nationally before having a family and moving to the South West. I taught and choreographed on the degree course at The Urdang Academy - London, taught for The Royal Academy of Dance and Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, was Artistic Director of The Berkshire Youth Dance Company and choreographed a piece for the Lords Mayor show, performed at St Pauls Cathedral.

I danced with many small-scale UK touring companies including Smallpetitklein - now Shaper/Caper for whom I became Rehearsal Director, performing in theatres, festivals, ships, palaces, shopping centres and more.

Since re-starting my dance work, I’ve focused on dance theatre, choreographing, teaching and re-growing my dance network in the South West.

ADVENTURES IN DANCE is a home for all these practices in which I combine my strengths, love of performance and community work, rooted firmly in the SW.
