About the Class These contemporary dance classes are designed to develop your technique while improving flexibility, strength, coordination, and overall fitness — all within a supportive, encouraging, and non-competitive environment. The focus is on progress, expression, and enjoyment rather than perfection. New to Contemporary Dance? If you haven’t taken a contemporary class before, you’re very welcome. Expect a physically engaging session filled with fluid, expressive movement and thoughtfully structured exercises that gently challenge your body and help build strength and mobility over time. While this isn’t a fitness class in the traditional sense (like Zumba), you will definitely feel yourself getting stronger and fitter as the weeks go on. Classes are suitable for a range of abilities, with a mix of ages and experience levels. You’re always encouraged to work at your own pace. If a movement doesn’t feel right for your body, alternative options will always be offered — listening to your body is part of the practice. For those with some experience, the class offers opportunities to deepen technique, refine movement quality and challenge yourself within the material. What Kind of Movement? Some sequences include floor work, which means dancing with parts of your body in contact with the floor — such as rolling, sliding, and transitioning smoothly between standing and the ground. This can sometimes involve getting down and back up in quicker sequences, but modifications are always available. Above all, expect to move, explore, challenge yourself, and enjoy dancing in a welcoming space. Please pay what you can, and feel comfortable with - thank you.
